Webster's dictionary defines "families" as a group of people closely related, a group consisting of individuals descended from a common ancestry. So whether you are talking about the "Family of God" or a "household," the definition remains true.
The sad truth today is that there are many families in and outside of our churches struggling to stay together. New terminology as been created to define what we have become. Terms such as Latch-key kids, Sandwich and X Generations, Boomers and Buster all attempt to describe or justify what we have become. Our post-modern families dwell in a land that is fascinated with "Extremes" and "Reality TV." Children grow up promiscuously confused about their identity and relationships because of the impact of MTV, a family that regularly comes to church is not exempt from the enemy or his strategy of defeat. For many, good, healthy family models are few and far between.
Green Acres is dedicated to the building of strong families, whether they be in the form of a single parent or a mom and dad with 2.3 kids running around the house. Families give us a sense of identity and purpose in this world. Families are the green houses where growth can take place all year long; growth that will impact the world for Jesus Christ.
